Celtic fans were not particularly delighted when the club decided to appoint Ange Postecoglou as manager in the summer of 2021. For months, it had looked like the Hoops had chased the signature of Eddie Howe and when that failed to materialise, they brought in the Australian instead. The response of the Rangers supporters to the news was quite the opposite.

It would be safe to say that most of them were amused at the idea of Celtic appointing a manager who had never coached a top flight club in Europe before that. That too after a season when the Hoops had finished 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership and failed to win a single piece of silverware.

Things can change very quickly in football though and that is exactly what has happened with Postecoglou at Celtic. Today, he is adored by the club’s fans, who want to see him remain at Parkhead for as long as possible. On the other hand, it does feel like Rangers supporters would be relieved to see him leave Glasgow, whenever that happens.

Barry Ferguson made a very honest confession in his column in the Daily Record, as he wrote:

"Let’s be honest, they might not be willing to admit it but there’s hardly a Rangers fan out there who wouldn’t be quietly relieved if the big Aussie was tempted away from Glasgow for a shot at the English Premier League. And I’m pretty sure Michael Beale would feel the same way."

It is safe to say that Postecoglou is the top manager in Scotland right now. He led Celtic to a Premiership and League Cup double last season, against all expectations.

This time around, they are in a great position as well. They sit nine points clear in the league and have booked their place in the League Cup final as well, where they will take on the Rangers.

One can only hope that Postecoglou stays on at Celtic Park for as long as possible, and continues to guide the club to one trophy after another.
