Celtic have a number of players in their squad, who have done a tremendous job after arriving over the course of the past 18 months. In fact, one could argue that that has been the number one reason behind their success under the management of Ange Postecoglou. When the Australian had arrived in the summer of 2021, the club were in a terrible position and on top of that, several key players were on their way out as well.
As a result, the squad underwent an overhaul that summer, and the club have continued to add to their ranks since then. Most of the signings have proven to be successes, and that has reflected on the pitch.
Of course, not all transfers can be successful. That is just the nature of the game. And one move that did not work out was the one for Yosuke Ideguchi.
The Japanese midfielder was brought in from Gamba Osaka, but was never able to nail down his spot in the team and was recently sent out on loan to Avispa Fukuok. And as reported by Football Insider, Tam McManus said:
"“In fairness to Ange, Ideguchi might be one of only two transfers you could say have been a failure on his watch.“The rest of the Japanese players have been excellent and you can’t get everything right in recruitment. It’s hard to judge because no one has really seen him.“He hasn’t kicked a ball for Celtic then he gets an injury right at the start. I don’t think he has ever recovered and it is so hard to get into that midfield at the best of times.“As long as you are getting more right than you are getting wrong in recruitment then you will stay ahead of the game.“Ideguchi just hasn’t been a success, unfortunately.“I don’t think you will see him again at Celtic.”"
Celtic player’s Parkhead career claimed to be over
Ideguchi has only left on a year-long loan, but there is a very good possibility that his Parkhead career might really be over.
He did not play a single minute of football this season before he was sent out on loan. It must also be pointed out though that he was pretty unlucky during his time in Glasgow and picked up a couple of injuries, before he could ever find his feet.
The move was always believed to be a bit of a risk and ultimately, it did not pay off. But then, that is bound to happen at times. Let’s see how he does now that he is back in the J League.
