Celtic have done a wonderful job when it comes to rebuilding their squad since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou and turning the club back into the best in Scotland in a very short span of time, when it had looked like it was going to be a long-term project after the disaster that was the 2020/21 campaign. The club, the recruitment team and the coaching staff deserve immense credit for that.

The pursuit to get better never stops though and there are certain positions which could do with some strengthening in the future. One of them is goalkeeper.

One has to give credit to Joe Hart for the job that he has done since signing for Celtic. Many had questioned the move, but he has proven himself to be a league-winning goalkeeper once again while also establishing himself as a leader, something that the club needed following the exit of Scott Brown.

But at the same time, he will turn 36 years of age this April and Celtic must start looking towards the future. Thus, signing another goalkeeper next summer might not be a bad idea.

Celtic have a couple of very highly rated young goalkeepers in their ranks at the moment in the form of Tobi Oluwayemi and Josh Clarke. It is important that they are given a chance when the time comes.

Thus, it would not be ideal to make a huge outlay in signing a goalkeeper. As a result, a move for Inaki Pena of Barcelona makes a lot of sense. His current deal is set to run out next summer and he could very well be available as a free agent.

Pena is just 23 years of age and was very highly rated while coming through the youth ranks. But he finds himself as the second choice goalkeeper at the club right now, and has not gotten enough chances to show what he is capable of.

If Pena leaves Barcelona next summer, which is expected, then Celtic should consider making a move to sign him on a free transfer.
