Celtic saw quite a few players depart the club in the January transfer window. The most high profile exit was without doubt that of Josip Juranovic, who has joined Union Berlin. Scott Robertson moved to English League One side, Fleetwood Town, currently managed by Scott Brown. And the loan deals of both Moritz Jenz and Oliver Abildgaard were cut short. Giorgos Giakoumakis is believed to be on the verge of a move to Atlanta United as well.

Another player seems to be closing in on a Parkhead exit though and it is none other than Yosuke Ideguchi.

Ideguchi joined Celtic from Gamba Osaka in January of 2021, but his time at Parkhead has not been good. He has had to deal with multiple injuries and never really gotten to show what he is capable of as a result. And now, it looks like he will be heading back to Japan on a loan deal.

As reported by Sponichi (via Football Scotland), Ideguchi is closing in on a loan move to Avispa Fukuoka with negotiations between the club and his representatives believed to be already at an advanced stage.

The signing of Ideguchi was always considered to be a risky one. While Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda had enjoyed outstanding campaigns before joining Celtic, that was not the case with the midfielder at Gamba Osaka.

Instead, it felt like Ideguchi was brought in based on his unfulfilled potential. He was considered as one of the biggest talents in Japanese football early on in his career.

But a move to Leeds United failed to work out. The hope was that he would be able to get it done at Celtic, in his second chance at a big move to Europe. But it has not worked out this time either.
