Ange Postecoglou has been pretty close to flawless when it comes to transfers, since his arrival at Celtic. Of course, there have been some moves which have not worked out, like the signings of Yosuke Ideguchi or James McCarthy, or the loan deal for Oliver Abildgaard. But overall, the team have done much better over the past 18 months than anybody could have expected when the Australian was appointed.

It is easy to forget but Postecoglou’s appointment was not a popular one amongst the fans. For months, Celtic had been linked with Eddie Howe. The Englishman was a household name and for all intents and purposes, a very good manager.

But when that move failed to work out, the club went on to bring in Postecoglou quickly. It is safe to say that he was pretty much an unknown in European football at that point of time, despite his successes in Japan and Australia and also managing the Socceroos at the World Cup. It did not take long for him to prove the critics wrong though.

In many ways, that is a mirror image of the story of Aaron Mooy at Celtic, who had arrived amidst a lot of raised eyebrows in the last summer transfer window put has proven to be a great signing.

By the time Mooy dinked the ball over the St Johnstone goalkeeper into the net to finish off a wonderful move from Celtic, the supporters were already aware of his brilliance and he had firmly established himself as a fan favourite.

That was not always the case though. Many had questioned the signing, considering Mooy was playing in China before this and had not played competitive football for quite a while.

Given time though, Postecoglou’s decision has been proven right once again and Mooy looks like a brilliant signing. He might very well be the best in Scotland on current form. And in a time filled with one transfer masterstroke after another, this could very well be the manager’s biggest one till now at Celtic.
