Celtic’s decision to sign Aaron Mooy in the summer had raised a lot of eyebrows. After all, he had not played regular football for a while and on top of that, had been playing in China before his move to Glasgow. He was also on the older side and thus, many fans were left a bit underwhelmed with the move.

It is safe to say that it has not taken Mooy long to prove his critics wrong. Of course, he made a slow start to life in Celtic colours.

At the start of the campaign, he did not look up to match fitness. But once he has hit those levels, he looks like a class apart and might even be the best player in Scottish football right now, based on his current form.

Mooy scored a wonderful goal against St Johnstone away at McDiarmid Park and now, questions are being raised about his long-term future at Celtic. As reported by Football Scotland, he told Sky Sports about the matter:

"“I’m too old to think about the long-term. I’m just enjoying game by game and we’ll see.”"

Mooy’s current deal is believed to run out in the summer but considering how he has been performing, especially in recent months and it does not feel like the club would have any problem handing him a new contract if he does want to stay.

Also, Mooy seems to have found a great place for himself in the twilight end of his career and it is hard to imagine why he would want to leave when things are going so well for him here.

Mooy will be turning 33 later on this year and it does not feel like a top Premier League club would be coming for him, despite his great run of form. Thus, staying at Celtic might be the best step for all parties involved.
