Ange Postecoglou’s place in the Celtic dugout seems as safe as it can be at this point of time. That has not been the case for other teams around Scotland though, as there has been a bit of a managerial merry-go-round in recent years in the Premiership. It is just recently that Aberdeen showed Jim Goodwin the exit door.

Aberdeen had made a decent enough start to the season, but they had lost their form completely in recent times. Some of their recent results included a 6-0 loss vs Hibernian, a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Hearts and a Scottish Cup elimination at the hands of lower league Darvel.

Thus, it came as no surprise when Goodwin was shown the exit door. And now, the Dons are searching for their next manager.

Former Celtic player, John Hughes, seems to be very interested in the job and has announced that he has applied for the role. As reported by BBC, he said while speaking on Sportsound:

"“I’ve applied for the job, but I’ve gone through the proper channels and done it right.“I think my CV stands up with anyone. As Willie [Miller] says, I’m not a dinasour and I think it would be a good fit – good experience in Scottish football, and I’ve won things.“Sometimes I think it gets overlooked, but hopefully I get the chance to speak to them.”"

Hughes’ playing career peaked during his stint at Celtic. On the other hand, he has quite a bit of managerial experience under his belt as well.

His biggest job was without doubt Hibernian. But he has shown that he can deliver silverware at the top level as well, winning the Scottish Cup with Inverness, and has a pretty good record when it comes to cup competitions overall. Hughes was even named the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year for the 2014-15 season.

At the same time though, it would come as a major surprise if Aberdeen did end up going for someone like Hughes. Of course, never say never in football, but that just seems very unlikely, especially when you take a look at the rumours and speculation around the job.
