There are a lot of players who have come through the Celtic youth ranks, who have not managed to make it at Parkhead. And it is always interesting to see where their careers take them after leaving the club. One such player has ended up joining Wrexham AFC, currently owned by Hollywood A-Listers, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Eoghan O’Connell came through the youth ranks at Celtic and there were hopes that he would be able to make an impact at the senior level. It did not happen though. After some appearances for the Hoops and three loan spells, he ended up joining Bury.

Since then, O’Connell has bounced around League One and League Two, having played for Rochdale and Charlton Athletic as well, and now joins National League side, Wrexham.

The two Hollywood stars posted a video on Twitter, teasing the signing of O’Connell before it was made official by Wrexham, as McElhenney tried to help Reynolds pronounce the name ‘Eoghan’.

It is safe to say that Wrexham’s popularity has skyrocketed since Reynolds and McElhenney became the owners of the club.

A lot of that is down to their star power and but the majority of it due to a brilliant new documentary based around the club named ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

Wrexham were on the verge of promotion last time around and seem to be pushing once again, as they sit at second in the National League table despite having played a couple games less than first-placed Notts County.

Them signing players like O’Connell also goes to show the ambition that the club have at this point of time and it will be very interesting to see where things go from here for them. It would not be a surprise if they win promotion soon though.
