With the January transfer window now slammed shut, you’d think rumours of Celtic players leaving would go quiet for a while. But that’s not the case at all. The window may have closed in Scotland and across the European leagues, but it works to a different timeline in other parts of the world.
Transfer windows in the United States and Japan run till much later. And that could hold particular interest for Celtic fans.
While the Hoops won’t be signing players, some exits could still happen. Giorgos Giakoumakis’ expected Parkhead exit for example, could rumble on for a little while yet. Similarly there is the possibility of another Celtic player moving on in the upcoming weeks.
Yosuke Ideguchi could well be on his way out. Signed in the previous winter transfer window alongside Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate, he hasn’t had the same impact as those two players. And after not making a single appearance this season, parting ways might be best for all parties involved.
Celtic midfielder could leave even after deadline day
As reported by Japanese outlet Football Tribe (via Football Scotland), the interest remains in Ideguchi and the 26-year-old’s former club Gamba Osaka would be leading the way. The Japanese transfer window opened on January 6 and runs until March 31.
It is safe to say that the move for Ideguchi was always considered as a bit of a risk and it clearly has not paid off. The Japanese player has failed to nail down a place in the team for a while. So, it might be time to move on.
Of course, it is not all down to Ideguchi either, as he has been extremely unlucky with injuries. But is safe to say that things are not working out and a change is needed. Does a move back to Japan lie in his future? Time shall tell.
