It is safe to say that this has certainly been an interesting deadline day for Celtic fans, even though no signings are expected. The focus lies on exits instead and we have already witnessed one in the form of Oliver Abildgaard. The Daish player’s loan spell was cut short and he has ended up joining Hellas Verona till the end of the season instead.

On the other hand, the future of Giorgos Giakoumakis still remains a mystery as well. It was expected that an exit would be officially announced today but that has not been the case still now.

Another player who was expected to be on his way out of Parkhead earlier in the month is Stephen Welsh. But it looks like his situation has changed following the departure of Moritz Jenz. The German centre-back played quite a bit early on in the campaign but following the return of Carl Starfelt from injury and the signing of Yuki Kobayashi this month, his loan spell was cut short as well.

And as reported by The Courier (via Daily Record), Dundee United have failed in a late bid to land Welsh on loan from Celtic and he will be staying at Parkhead after the champions rejected the approach.

It is safe to say that Welsh is nowhere near a starter for Celtic at this point of time but after Jenz’s exit, he might possibly have a role to play moving forward.

Let’s see what the future holds for the academy graduate. There is no doubt about his talent but he does lack consistency.

That will only come with experience and perhaps a spell out on loan would have served him well. But with Jenz leaving, it looks like the club did not want to take a chance.
