Things might be quiet at Celtic Park in terms of arrivals today, but it looks like the club are continuing work late when it comes to departures. There are several players, who do not seem to have a clear role in Ange Postecoglou’s plans and it might be best for all parties to part ways as a result.
One player who certainly falls under that category is Oliver Abildgaard. The Danish midfielder had arrived on loan in the summer from Rubin Kazan.
There were high expectations surrounding the move as well. He was a profile of player that Celtic had been missing following Nir Bitton’s exit. The Danish international was highly-rated as well and some were left disappointed that it was only a loan deal.
It is safe to say that things have not gone his way at Parkhead since then. And now, as reported by the Daily Record, Abildgaard has had his Celtic loan deal cancelled and signed for Serie A club, Hellas Verona, for the rest of the campaign.

Celtic have signed Tomoki Iwata this month, who is capable of playing both as a defensive midfielder and a centre-back. And as a result, Abildgaard was expected to have slipped further down the pecking order.
So, him ending his loan spell at Celtic and heading to Hellas Verona might be the best step for all parties involved at this point of time.
While Celtic do not have that profile of player still, they have done quite well even without Abildgaard playing much.
One can only hope that Iwata takes to Scottish football and that would end the club’s search for a defensive midfielder for good. Let’s see what the future holds but we can only wish Abildgaard the best in his next step.
