Celtic have been very busy in the ongoing January transfer window, both in terms of incomings and outgoings. As approach deadline day, it is safe to say that there could be more activity around Parkhead. And it looks like the Hoops have knocked back a late offer for one of their most highly-rated youngsters.

The club recently signed Oh Hyeon-gyu, while Kyogo Furuhashi has been in unstoppable form after the World Cup break. On the other hand though, Giorgos Giakoumakis is expected to leave the club this month, with a move to Atlanta United believed to be on the verge of completion.

Thus, the spot for a third striker in the squad remains vacant and one could make an argument that that should go to in-form Joey Dawson. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Dawson has scored 16 goals and provided 2 assists in 15 Lowland League appearances this season.

And as reported by Football Scotland, Celtic have rejected a loan offer from Newport County for Dawson.

Celtic have rejected offer for highly-rated young striker who should get first-team role in the future

Celtic have not had a great time when it comes to bringing through their youth players into the first-team in recent years.

Somebody like Dawson deserves a chance though after he has been simply superb at the Celtic B level and could not possibly be doing more to make a case for himself. Now, it remains to be seen if he gets his chance in the future or not. Till now, he has one senior appearance to his name.

It does look like Celtic do not want to sanction a loan move for him, after how well he has been doing in the developmental ranks. And if things continue at this rate, sooner or later, he has to get a chance to prove himself in Ange Postecoglou’s side.
