The ongoing January transfer window has been more exciting for Celtic than most fans would have seen coming. The club had made three early additions, before the month had even started, by getting deals over the line for Yuki Kobayashi, Tomoki Iwata and Alistair Johnston. And they were recently able to add Oh Hyeon-gyu to their ranks as well, after a chase for Cho Gue-sung seemed to lead absolutely nowhere.

On the other hand, there has been some excitement in terms of outgoings as well. Josip Juranovic had been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and AS Roma, but ultimately ended up joining Union Berlin. They do sit second in the Bundesliga table though, just a point behind Bayern Munich.

The Giorgos Giakoumakis exit saga has dragged on and on, with a different team looking like the favourites to sign him everyday. For the time being though, it seems to have come down to Urawa Red Diamonds of J League and Atlanta United of MLS.

Anthony Joseph has provided a late night update on the entire situation as he tweeted out:

With how many twists and turns there already have been in the Giakoumakis exit saga, nothing should be taken for granted until an official announcement has been made regarding his transfer.

One thing that seems for certain is that Giakoumakis will leave Celtic Park before the January transfer window slams shut. Where he will be headed still remains unclear.

Earlier rumours did suggest that Giakoumakis preferred a move to Atlanta United. But the MLS side had initially wanted him on a loan deal with an option to buy.

Now that they have made submitted a bid for a permanent transfer, one would have to consider Atlanta United as the favourites to sign Giakoumakis.
