Celtic could try to sign player again after January failure
Celtic have been pretty successful when it comes to getting transfer deals over the line under the management of Ange Postecoglou. Even this month, they have made four signings in the form of Tomoki Iwata, Alistair Johnston, Yuki Kobayashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu, strengthening the squad further as a result.
One move that they were not able to pull off though was the one for Cho Gue-sung. Rumours suggested that Celtic had even submitted a transfer bid for him, but ultimately, he stayed on at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and is expected to reconsider his situation in the summer.
Celtic have added a striker though, in the form of Oh. But on the other hand, Giorgos Giakoumakis is expected to complete an exit this month. Thus, could the Hoops rekindle their interest in Cho in the summer again?
As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Pete O’Rourke said about the entire situation:
"“They’ve got Oh in, who looks a good player and a player that Ange Postecoglou rates highly as well. So Oh’s come in, it’ll probably pave the way for Giakoumakis to leave, but I’m sure Celtic might rekindle their interest in Cho come the summer, if they’re still in the market for forward reinforcements.”"
Celtic could rekindle interest in the player after failing to sign him in January
Rumours have suggested that Cho wanted to move to Mainz and decided to stay on when that did not transpire. The Bundesliga side have gone on to add a striker to their ranks recently though, by signing Ludovic Ajorque.
When it comes to Celtic, they have two options up front right now. One is Kyogo, who has been in splendid form after the World Cup break. The other is Oh, who made his debut against Dundee United, much earlier than anybody could have expected.
If Oh does well and Kyogo stays on at Celtic, it is unlikely that they would try to sign Cho in the summer. But if the club do find themselves in need of another forward in the near future and the South Korean international is available, do not be surprised to see them make another move for him.
