Celtic vs Dundee United ended in a 2-0 win for the Hoops, as they maintained their nine-point lead at the top of the Premiership table and continued their march towards the Premiership title. Jota found the back of the net, while Aaron Mooy scored from the spot as well, to hand Ange Postecoglou’s side all three points.

The game came with its fair share of controversy as well. A penalty kick was overturned while another was awarded, and there was a possible red card that was missed as well.

Of course, it has become a common sight in Scottish football since the introduction of VAR earlier this season. The hope was that the system would help reduce the controversy surrounding refereeing decisions but instead, it has somehow managed to magnify them.

Postecoglou has spoken quite a lot about VAR in public in recent times. But now, it looks like the Celtic manager has decided against doing it moving forward and will only concentrate on things that are in his hands. As reported by The Herald, the Australian said to BBC Sportsound:

"“I made a conscious decision a few weeks back not to, sort of…“All I can do is control what my team does and the football we play. We’ve got to make sure we keep playing the football we are, and put the result beyond anything that can interfere with that. That’s what the lads were doing.”"

It is hard to think of a game in recent times in Scotland where there was not some controversy or another with the manner in which VAR was used.

The good thing is that Celtic have managed to rack up the wins despite the number of calls that have gone against them in recent times. But that cannot continue on forever. There needs to be a solution. And quickly as well.

There have been talks and several ideas floated, about how to improve the use of VAR in Scottish football moving forward although nothing concrete has been implemented yet. One can only hope that things get significantly better in the future.
