Celtic have had a very interesting January transfer window to say the least. Of course, they came out of the gates quickly and had deals in place for Yuki Kobayashi, Alistair Johnston and Tomoki Iwata before the month had even started. Then there was the entire saga surrounding Cho Gue-sung, which led nowhere. But the club were able to bring in a very highly-rated striker regardless, in the form of Oh Hyeon-gyu.

On the other end, we have seen Josip Juranovic complete a move to Union Berlin, who could put up an unlikely Bundesliga title challenge this season and are just one point behind Bayern Munich. Scott Robertson has moved to Fleetwood Town, who are currently being managed by Scott Brown.

But the most thrilling has perhaps been the transfer saga involving Giorgos Giakoumakis’ exit. The Greek striker looks certain to depart Parkhead this month, but with just days left in the transfer window, it is still unclear where he will end up.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Atlanta United are now trying to get a deal for Giakoumakis done ahead of Urawa Red Diamonds and a new $4.7 million proposal has been accepted by Celtic.

It is safe to say that there have been more than enough twists and turns in the Giakoumakis transfer saga already.

Even up until a few hours ago, it had looked like he was destined to join Urawa Red Diamonds and Atlanta United had pulled out of the race to sign the striker.

But now, not only do Atlanta United seem to be back in the mix but it looks like they have had a transfer proposal accepted as well.

Earlier rumours had suggested that Giakoumakis preferred a move to the MLS side, and thus, Atlanta United do feel like favourites to sign him now.
