Celtic have done a great job when it comes to strengthening their squad further in the January transfer window. The club have signed four players this month in the form of Yuki Kobayashi, Tomoki Iwata, Alistair Johnston and Oh Hyeon-gyu. The possibility of making a further addition has not been completely ruled out either. But they must be very happy with the work that they have done till now and seem to have all bases covered in terms of roles and positions.

On the other hand, Josip Juranovic has sealed a move to Union Berlin, who seem to be challenging for the Bundesliga top spot. And Giorgos Giakoumakis looks set to head out of the Parkhead exit door this month as well.

But there are some other players though, who have not left the club, even though they do not have any real role in the team right now.

The two names which come to mind immediately in that regard are Yosuke Ideguchi and James McCarthy. Both of them have struggled to get on the pitch this season and leaving in this window might be the best step for all parties involved.

When Celtic brought in McCarthy in the summer of 2021, the hope was that he would be able to rediscover some of his best form and use his experience to contribute to the team.

On the other hand, Ideguchi seemed to be a signing that was made based on his potential and not on what he had been producing on the pitch in the immediate past.

It is safe to say that neither move has gone as the Hoops would have expected and it might be time to move on. That is easier said than done though, as it will be a difficult task finding them new clubs.
