Celtic have been very busy this month and that is not expected to change, as we enter the last few days of the January transfer window. The Hoops have already completed four signings, and one cannot completely rule them out making further additions. On the other hand, Josip Juranovic has departed Parkhead and joined Bundesliga club, Union Berlin. There have been a few other moves in terms of outgoings and more could be on the way.
Of course, the big story right now seems to be revolving the future of Giorgos Giakoumakis. The Greek international has been linked with a move away for weeks now and yet, nothing has materialised.
The two clubs who seemed to be most interested in him are Urawa Red Diamonds and Atlanta United. Some rumours have recently linked him with a switch to Anderlecht as well. But now, it looks like the saga is finally in its last stretch.
As reported by SDNA, Giakoumakis has already gone through his medicals in the Netherlands and is now returning to Glasgow in order to complete his transfer to Urawa Red Diamonds.
Celtic player has already completed his medicals and is now on the verge of sealing exit
It looks like after a long running saga, it is Urawa Red Diamonds who are set to win the race for Giakoumakis’ signature.
It must be pointed out that rumours suggested that Atlanta United wanted to sign him on a loan deal with an option to buy. On the other hand, the J League side already had a deal in place with Celtic, for a permanent transfer. And that seems to have proven vital.
Unless something unexpected happens over the next couple of days, it looks like Giakoumakis is headed to Japan. Him leaving in the middle of the season will be a blow for Celtic but they have already brought in Oh Hyeon-gyu, who will hopefully be able to take up his role in the team.
