It is always interesting to see Celtic players enter management after hanging up their boots. Of course, there is always the possibility that they could end up in the Parkhead hot seat some day if they end up doing well. On the other hand, it is also good to see them around the game. For one former player though, his first foray into management has not gone as well as he would have expected.

Kolo Toure might not have had an extensive career as a player for Celtic. But he did spend some time at the club as part of Brendan Rodgers’ coaching team.

Recently, he had taken his first steps in management as well, by taking the Wigan Athletic job. It was a difficult task to say the least but at the same time, there was a feeling that someone with his experience as a player, could do well in that kind of an environment.

Unfortunately, reality has proven to be very different. As reported by Sky Sports, Toure has been sacked by Wigan Athletic just two months after his managerial appointment.

Wigan Athletic find themselves sitting at the bottom of the English Championship table and had been on a nine game run of no wins under the management of Toure.

Thus, the club cannot really be blamed for making a change in the hot seat as they are looking to stay up in the English second division. It was a bad start in management for Toure though, who must have hoped for so much more coming into the role.

Hopefully he will carry on coaching and there should be more opportunities in the future. It will be difficult for him to get a job at the Championship-level in the near future though, considering how things went at Wigan Athletic.
