After making a blistering start by signing Yuki Kobayashi, Alistair Johnston and Tomoki Iwata, things had slowed down a bit at Celtic when it comes to transfer business. But now, it looks like things are picking up pace once again. On one hand, it appears that the arrival of Oh Hyeon-gyu is not far away. On the other hand, it looks like a high profile exit is on the verge of completion as well.
Josip Juranovic was always expected to depart this month after his stunning performances at the World Cup with the Croatia national team, as they finished third.
The manner in which the transfer saga has transpired has left a lot of people scratching their heads though. While Juranovic had been linked with clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and several others, it looks like he is not going to any of them. And his transfer fee looks set to be surprising as well.
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Juranovic is set to join Union Berlin. The transfer guru has given it his famous ‘here we go’. He will undergo the medical tests on Sunday. €8 million fixed fee plus add-ons.
Confusing Celtic transfer saga is set to come to an end soon
Considering how well Juranovic did at the World Cup, it is certainly surprising that there did not appear to be more activity around his transfer, despite there being so many rumours.
Many Celtic fans had even hoped for a Scottish record transfer fee or something close to that, but it has fallen way short of that.
For Juranovic, this is a decent enough move. Union Berlin have established themselves as one of the best teams in the Bundesliga in recent times, finishing fifth last season, while they are challenging for the top four in this campaign as well.
