Celtic brushed aside any fears of a cup upset with a 5-0 win over Greenock Morton. Kyogo Furuhashi continued his hot streak in front of goal with a brace. Aaron Mooy, who seems to be getting better every game, found the back of the net twice as well. And David Turnbull scored as well. There seems to be some more good news on the horizon for the Hoops though.
While Kyogo might be in world-class form right now, Giorgos Giakoumakis is expected to complete a Parkhead exit before the transfer window slams shut. Celtic might be closing in on a replacement as well though.
Initially, it had been believed that Cho Gue-sung was their number one target, but with him looking set to remain at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, the club seem to have turned their attention towards another South Korean striker in the form of Oh Hyeon-gyu.
As reported by Football Scotland, Oh will undergo his medical tests today ahead of completing a transfer to Celtic.
Celtic medical set for today ahead as signing is very close
Oh is just 21 years of age and understandably not as complete as Cho yet, but he has definitely showed some great promise himself.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Oh scored 14 goals and provided 2 assists in 39 appearances for Suwon Samsung Bluewings in the 2022 campaign.
It is also worth remembering that Suwon Samsung Bluewings were not nearly as good as the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors last season, which makes Oh’s output even more impressive.
It might take him some time to adjust to the Scottish game but overall, Oh has the potential to be a great long-term addition to this Celtic side, who have shown an impressive eye for talent in recent times.
Some of the attributes that Oh already possesses are very impressive and a good fit for Ange Postecoglou’s style of football.
