It is no secret that Celtic are after a striker this month. The club’s finishing this season had already been criticised, even though Kyogo Furuhashi has found some impressive form after the World Cup break, and on top of that, it looks like Giorgos Giakoumakis could be on his way out of Parkhead in January. Thus, Ange Postecoglou’s side need to strengthen up front.
They have faced obstacles in their quest to sign a striker though. Cho Gue-sung was believed to be their number one target but it looks like the South Korean international has decided to remain at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors for the time being. Casper Tengstedt, another player that the Hoops had been linked with, has joined Benfica.
Celtic have been linked with a long list of strikers in recent times though, and it looks like one of them has now caught the attention of Southampton.
As reported by The Athletic, Southampton have revived their interest in Bristol City’s Antoine Semenyo. But no official bid has yet been made.
Southampton want to sign Celtic-linked striker
Celtic were heavily linked with a move for Semenyo last January, as well as in the previous summer transfer window. There have not been as many rumours about the Bristol City star this time around though.
Of course, a lot of that might be down to the fact that he has struggled to match his performances from last season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Semenyo has scored 7 goals and provided 2 assists in 26 appearances in this campaign.
But there is no question about his talent and he is someone that Celtic have been linked with heavily in the past.
At the moment, the club are being linked with other players though, and it remains to be seen if they are able to add a striker to their ranks before the January transfer window slams shut.
