Celtic have done a wonderful job of completing the right signings in recent times and the results are clear for all to see. The Hoops are the dominant team in Scotland once again, while 18 months back, nobody was giving them a chance to even give the Rangers a scare in the Premiership title race. That’s how quickly the club have turned things around under the management of Ange Postecoglou.
So while there are a lot of things to be absolutely delighted about, one that still remains a worry is their poor track record in recent years when it comes to bringing through youth standouts into the first-team set up.
The only one who is a regular in the current starting XI is Callum McGregor, while Anthony Ralston and Stephen Welsh have their roles to play. There are big hopes from the likes of Bosun Lawal and Rocco Vata. And it appears that the club have plans for another promising youngster as well.
Celtic announced recently that they have agreed a contract extension for B Team captain, Matthew Anderson. It sees the defender commit his future to the Hoops until June, 2025.
Celtic announce contract extension with defender till 2025
Anderson is without doubt one of the most highly rated youngsters coming through the ranks at Celtic right now.
He is just 18 years of age and for a defender, his output at the youth level is exceptional. Now, it remains to be seen when or if he can make the jump to the senior level for Celtic.
It must also be pointed out that there was interest in the signature of Anderson from down South as well, with Leeds United being heavily linked with the defender in the past. Thus, him signing a contract extension with the Hoops should be seen as a major boost.
