Celtic have barely made a misstep in the transfer market in the time of Ange Postecoglou as the manager of the club. That could be about to change this month. The club sit top of the Premiership table and have already booked their place in the final of the Scottish League Cup, meaning they still have three trophies to play for.

Despite that, the Hoops seem to have made the brave decision of letting Giorgos Giakoumakis go without bringing in a replacement first.

Letting a first-team player leave in the middle of the campaign is always a risk, and especially if he was key to the club’s Premiership triumph just last season.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Urawa Red Diamonds have reached an agreement with Celtic for the transfer of Giakoumakis for a €4 million package. And as reported by Football Scotland, Serie A’s Sampdoria have had an offer rejected by the Hoops.

Celtic have rejected transfer bid for Giakoumakis from Serie A club

The fact that Celtic have agreed to let Giakoumakis leave for a transfer package worth around €4 million raises questions about what kind of deals the other interested clubs had put together in their attempts to sign the Greek striker from the Hoops.

The biggest issue for Celtic right now though is bringing in someone who can take Giakoumakis’ place in the team.

Unfortunately, it is hard to imagine that that kind of a transfer fee would be able to bring a player, who is capable of producing the numbers that Giakoumakis delivered, with the opportunities that he was given during his time at Parkhead.

But then, the Hoops have shown a tremendous eye for talent over the past couple of years and perhaps they already have a plan in place. One can only hope for the best.
