Celtic have continued to add to their squad this January, bringing in three new faces in the form of Alistair Johnston, Yuki Kobayashi and Tomoki Iwata. The Canadian international has already impressed and seems to be the long-term replacement for Josip Juranovic at Parkhead. On the other hand, we are yet to see the Japanese duo in action but that will hopefully not remain the case for too long.

These additions also mean though that the competition for places at Celtic is extremely high at this point of time and it is very difficult for youngsters to get significant playing time.

Thus, it is best for some of these players to head out on loan in search of minutes rather than sit on the bench or in the reserves at Celtic Park.

Adam Montgomery spent the first half of the season at St Johnstone, but was surprisingly pictured training with the Hoops recently. The initial loan deal was believed to be only till January. But now, as tweeted out by the Saints, he has returned to the club on loan until the end of the season.

Celtic player returns to Premiership rivals on loan till the end of the season

There was a period of time early last season when it had looked like Montgomery could have a place in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI.

He played quite a bit of first-team football early on but as the season progressed, the youngster slipped down the pecking order.

He was sent out on loan to Aberdeen in the second half of the season but it was not a successful spell. On the contrary, Montgomery has been making his mark with St Johnstone and thus, it is definitely the right decision to send him back to the club till the end of the season in order to develop further.
