Celtic are without doubt in search of a striker this month, especially with the future of Giorgos Giakoumakis up in the air. The club have been linked with several players in that regard but the one player that they seem to be most interested in is South Korean international, Cho Gue-sung, who currently plays for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.

Cho was immensely impressive at the World Cup, scoring a couple of goals for his national team, as they managed to make it to the last 16 of the competition.

He has been on top form at club level as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 21 goals and provided 5 assists in 35 appearances in the 2022 campaign. Thus, someone like Cho could be a good replacement for Giakoumakis, if the Greek striker was to leave.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Celtic have made a €3 million bid for Cho with 50% on future transfer up to €6 million. On the other hand, Minnesota United are offering a €5 million fee plus 30% on a future transfer.

Celtic have made a sensational bid for the striker but even that might not be enough to sign him

It is safe to say that you do not see a 50% sell on clause for a player often, and Celtic certainly do have the ability to transfer Cho at a big fee in the future, if he does well at Parkhead.

On the other hand, Minnesota United seem to be offering a bigger transfer fee up front but are not giving as big of a sell-on clause.

Let’s see how things transpire moving forward, but it is safe to say that signing Cho would be a boost for Celtic. The striker has the ability to finish with both feet and is a physical presence as well. Both of his goals at the World Cup came from headers. And thus, he is a similar profile of player to Giakoumakis, something that the Hoops would not have if the Greek international left.
