Celtic are moving quickly in the January transfer window. They have already gotten three deals over the line and do not seem keen on letting things drag on till the end of the month. One area that the club certainly need to strengthen in is striker, especially if Giorgos Giakoumakis is headed for the Parkhead exit door.

Giakoumakis has not started a single game since after the World Cup break as rumours have suggested that the Greek international has failed to agree new terms over a contract extension.

He has been heavily linked with a move to J League side, Urawa Red Diamonds, as well although other teams seem to be in the running too for the striker’s signature. On the other hand, it looks like it is Cho Gue-sung who has been earmarked as the guy to replace him in Ange Postecoglou’s team.

As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, Celtic are holding talks with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors technical director Ji-Sung Park in London, after making a transfer bid of around £3 million for Cho.

Someone like Cho could be an excellent addition to this Celtic side, particularly as a replacement for Giakoumakis.

Celtic do not have a player with a similar profile as Giakoumakis at this moment and if he was to indeed leave, it would leave a gap in the squad, which Cho could fill.

Cho certainly has the physical attributes, and as he proved at the World Cup, he can hang with the best of the best in the game and succeed.

Of course, there seems to be a lot of competition over Cho’s signature and while Celtic seem to have launched a significant bid, a deal is far from over the line. Let’s see what the future holds.
