Celtic seem to be looking to make further additions to their squad this January despite the arrivals of Tomoki Iwata, Alistair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi already. Now, it remains to be seen if the club are able to get any more deals over the line or not, but one area where they could be in need of immediate reinforcements is striker.
J League side, Urawa Red Diamonds, are believed to be leading the race to sign Giorgos Giakoumakis but it seems that there are several other clubs in the running for the Greek striker’s signature, as his Parkhead exit almost seems inevitable at this point of time.
It will be very interesting to see what the future holds for Giakoumakis. On the other hand, the transfer saga involving Celtic and Cho Gue-sung is running for a long time, and there seems to be another new twist in the tale.
As reported by Sports Chosun, Minnesota United have verbally presented a transfer fee of $5 million (£4.1 million) plus a sell-on clause to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors over the weekend for Cho. This is well above the £3 million fee that Celtic are believed to be offering for the South Korean striker.
MLS club make higher bid for striker than Celtic
Of course, this will come as a major blow to Celtic, as they have been chasing the signature of Cho for a long time.
Now, it remains to be seen if they are able to get a deal done or not, because things certainly seem to be getting interesting once again, just when it was looking like a move to Parkhead was close for the World Cup star.
Celtic have also been linked with Casper Tengstedt in recent times, but it appears that he is closing in on a switch to Benfica instead. Thus, the situation is far from ideal for Ange Postecoglou’s side right now.
