Celtic have been hard at work in the January transfer window. The club confirmed three new signings in December itself, with Yuki Kobayashi, Alistair Johnston and Tomoki Iwata making the switch to Parkhead. There could be more signings on the way though, especially if Giorgos Giakoumakis ends up leaving this month.

Rumours have suggested that Giakoumakis is looking for an exit in January after failing to agree terms on a contract extension with Celtic. He has been heavily linked with a move to Urawa Red Diamonds although other clubs are believed to be in the running for the Greek striker as well.

The fact that Giakoumakis has not started any games recently does seem to point towards an upcoming exit. If he was to indeed leave, the club would need to bring in a replacement though and one name that has been doing the rounds of the Celtic rumour mill constantly is Cho Gue-sung.

It had looked like the Hoops were closing in on a move as well but now, there seems to be a new twist in the tale. As reported by Mark Hendry on Football Scotland, Rangers are keeping an eye on Cho – but no transfer bid has been lodged yet.

Cho has been a man in demand in recent times. In fact, suggestions have been that Celtic have outbid Bundesliga club, Mainz, for his signature.

Now, it remains to be seen if they are able to win the race for the signature of the South Korean striker or not.

Cho was extremely impressive at the World Cup with his performances for the South Korean national team, as they reached the round of 16. He scored twice and was great with his overall play.

Cho has been performing brilliantly at club level too though. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 21 goals and provided 5 assists in 35 appearances in the 2022 campaign.
