Most of Celtic’s transfer business in recent times has involved incomings. But sooner or later, some players are bound to leave, and it looks like this January transfer window could prove to be the starting point of time. Of course, most fans are already aware of the rumours surrounding the futures of Giorgos Giakoumakis and Josip Juranovic.

It is very possible that both of them could be headed for the Parkhead exit door this month. And it looks like they might not be the only ones.

As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic are now willing to listen to offers for Stephen Welsh in this window. The youngster is attracting interest from clubs in Europe and the MLS. Ange Postecoglou is believed to be a fan of the centre-back but understands his desire for regular football.

Unfortunately, regular playing time is something that Welsh is expected to struggle for at Parkhead moving forward, following the arrivals of Yuki Kobayashi and Tomoki Iwata. Thus, an exit might be the best option for him.

Welsh has come through the Celtic youth ranks and been a part of the first-team picture for a few years now.

Unfortunately, he has never quite been able to nail down his spot in the starting XI though. On his day, Welsh is capable of pulling off some massive performances, but unfortunately, he does not yet have the consistency to produce those kinds of displays on a regular basis.

That is something that can only come with experience though. Yet, with the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Moritz Jenz already ahead of him in the pecking order, and now Kobayashi and Iwata at the club as well, playing time is going to be very hard to come by for Welsh at Parkhead. So, an exit makes sense for him.
