Considering the amount of depth that Celtic’s squad seems to have developed since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou, it is easy to understand why certain players are struggling for playing time. Unsurprisingly, there are several out on loan, picking up regular minutes and furthering their development, rather than sitting on the bench at Parkhead.
One such player is Adam Montgomery. For a while early on last season, it had looked like there could actually be a place for him in the Celtic rotation or even in the starting XI. But as the campaign progressed, he slipped down the pecking order.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Aberdeen and was sent out on a temporary basis to St Johnstone last summer. He has been getting regular playing time with the Saints.
But as reported by The Scottish Sun, Montgomery has been spotted back training at Celtic. St Johnston are keen on having him for the full campaign. But for now, at least, he’s back training with the Hoops.
Youngster is reportedly back training with Celtic
It is safe to say that the situation is a bit confusing, although, it is believed that the loan spell was only for the first half of the season.
It is clear though that Montgomery will find it tough to get any regular minutes at Parkhead and as a result, him being out on loan is the best for all parties involved. And he was already settled in the St Johnstone side.
Thus, while it is unclear what the situation is, one would hope that Montgomery returns back to Perth for the second half of the season as well.
Let’s see how things turn out for the highly-rated Celtic youngster moving forward. It would be a surprise if he does not go out on loan this month.
