Celtic have made a pretty good start to their transfer window once again, by getting deals done for Yuki Kobayashi, Alistair Johnston and Tomoki Iwata in December itself. Most fans would have expected the club to be less busy in the transfer market this time around, but the Hoops seem to be on a relentless pursuit to get better.

One player who could be headed in the opposite direction though is Giorgos Giakoumakis. All signs are pointing towards him being on the way out of the club, as the Greek striker has not started any of the games recently.

Rumours also broke out that he was closing in on a move to J League side, Urawa Red Diamonds. Before that happens, Celtic must make sure that they get Giakoumakis’ replacement through the door.

And Cho Gue-sung has emerged as the favourite to take up that role. Recent suggestions have been that Celtic have outbid Mainz for the South Korean striker. But now, it looks like the Rangers might be looking to swoop in and sign the 24-year-old from right under the Hoops’ noses.

As reported by journalist Alan Nixon (via The Scotsman), Rangers have now set their sights on usurping their rivals to land Cho. The 24-year-old is reportedly available for a transfer fee around £3 million.

Celtic have been linked with Cho for a long time and certainly seem to have done the work to lay the foundation for a transfer.

He has proven himself at both club and international level in recent times and could be an excellent signing for the club. Now, it remains to be seen if the Rangers are able to disrupt Celtic’s plans or not. Things could certainly get interesting moving forward in the transfer window.
