Some things just don’t make sense and you can say the same thing about the latest rumour surrounding Celtic. The club have done a great job strengthening their squad since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager. Sooner or later, a few players were bound to exit. The first of those could be Josip Juranovic.

Juranovic had a standout World Cup campaign and was arguably the best right-back at the tournament, with his personal highlight being completely restricting the influence of Vinicius Jr in the game between Croatia and Brazil.

Returning to Glasgow with a third place World Cup medal in his briefcase, it was understandable why Juranovic was being linked with a Parkhead exit, especially with clubs like Chelsea, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, AS Roma and more rumoured to hold an interest.

But now, as reported by the Daily Mail (via Daily Record), Juranovic is poised to join Monza on an initial loan deal with a deferred transfer payment of £7 million set for the summer.

Celtic first-team player seems to be closing in on a bizarre transfer

To be honest, Juranovic moving to Monza on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy for a transfer fee around £7 million, does not make much sense for either the player or Celtic.

First of all, why would Celtic let a World Cup semi-finalist go for that kind of a transfer fee? Earlier, rumours had suggested that the club were looking for at least a figure around £17 million and that made a lot more sense.

On the other hand, why would Juranovic leave Celtic in order to join Monza? The Italian club are 15th in the Serie A table and could possibly become engulfed in a relegation battle. Surely more high profile clubs would be interested in his signature after the World Cup he had.
