Celtic’s Cameron Carter-Vickers has spoken of a particular moment in the recent match at Ibrox, as the Hoops managed to come out with a hard fought but well earned 2-2 draw against the Rangers. It seems to be one that the United States international and the fans will remember for a long time to come.
Carter-Vickers is playing particularly well at the moment and continues to show what a great signing he is after putting pen to paper on a permanent deal in the summer.
Carter-Vickers returned to Glasgow after appearing for the United States in the World Cup and it is looking like that experience has helped raise his level a further notch or two. He played a significant role in helping the Hoops secure a draw in the early January Premiership match at Ibrox against the Rangers.
Late in the game, following Kyogo’s goal to make the scoreline 2-2 and with the Rangers pressing forward again, there was a particular moment where Carter-Vickers really made a memorable mark and showed his immense strength.
Celtic’s Carter-Vickers talks about brilliant moment vs Rangers
At that point Carter-Vickers battled for the ball against three Rangers players and held them off to protect and win it. As he stood up after swatting off the trio and winning a foul, the defender roared and celebrated the move. It was a very Scott Brown-like moment, but with a new rock in place for the Hoops.
As reported by Football Scotland, Carter-Vickers gave his thoughts on that tackle and roar:
"“If I was to look back on it now, I would probably cringe a little bit. But at the time I was pumped.“I enjoyed the game and I enjoyed that moment. Every player wants to play in the big games and going away to Ibrox was definitely one of them. I was up for that game and I enjoyed it. It was important that we didn’t lose the game.“We would have liked to have won it and would probably have liked to have performed a bit better, but, all in all, it was probably a big point.”"
Given all the circumstances of that particular match whether it be VAR or an illness-hit squad, it was indeed a valuable and big point and helped protect the nine-point lead in the Premiership.
Next up is a chance to defend their Scottish League Cup with a semi-final at Hampden Park on Saturday against Kilmarnock. No doubt Carter-Vickers will be looking for more memorable moments from that tie too.
