There are quite a few Celtic players being linked with moves away from Parkhead. We have all heard about the rumours involving Giorgos Giakoumakis and Josip Juranovic. It is possible that both key first-team players could be on their way out this month. But they might not be the only ones.

Of course, Alistair Johnston’s promising performances since arriving at Celtic have meant that the fans are a lot less nervous about Juranovic leaving. On the other hand, one would hope that the club will sign a striker before considering letting Giakoumakis go.

Another player who might potentially complete a Parkhead exit this month is Stephen Welsh, who has been struggling for playing time this season and might have slipped further down the pecking order following the arrivals of Yuki Kobayashi and Tomoki Iwata.

As reported by The Scotsman, Croatian outfit Hajduk Split are monitoring Welsh’s situation at Celtic. The defender has a contract till the summer of 2025 though and it would take a sizeable transfer fee to sign him. The Scot has also been linked with Udinese but they are believed to be more keen on Ryan Porteous.

Welsh has always been highly rated at Celtic and on his day, he is a pretty good defender without doubt. The problem is, he seems to lack consistency.

On the other hand, the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Moritz Jenz were already ahead of Welsh in the pecking order, and now, Celtic have two more players who can play in the heart of defence in the form of Kobayashi and Iwata.

Thus, leaving Parkhead might not be a bad idea for Welsh at this point of time. But considering his potential, it might be a safer option for the Hoops to let him leave on loan rather than permanently.
