Celtic have enhanced their reputation for developing players into stars since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager. The likes of Jota, Kyogo, Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate, Josip Juranovic, Cameron Carter-Vickers and several others have gone on to become household names since joining the Glasgow giants. Thus, it is no surprise that Parkhead has become a very attractive destination for players looking to make their name in Europe.

The club have done an especially good job when it comes to identifying the best talents from Asia. They have already signed six players from the J League during the reign of Postecoglou as manager.

And it looked like they had keen eyes on South Korean striker, Cho Gue-sung, after his impressive displays at the World Cup for his national team as well as at the club level.

There is some bad news for the Hoops in that regard though. As reported by Evening Standard, Cho will choose a move to Mainz over Celtic in the January transfer window. The striker wants to complete the move as soon as possible to join the Bundesliga club.

Striker is ready to turn down chance to join Celtic and pick Bundesliga club

It is safe to say that Mainz is an attractive destination for Cho as well. There he is expected to go and immediately become a starter.

That might not be the case at Celtic, with Kyogo in stellar form since returning from the World Cup break. Cho would be expected to replace Giorgos Giakoumakis, who is expected to leave this month but the Greek striker is not starting at the moment himself and has been playing a role off the bench.

Thus, it is not hard to understand why Cho might pick a move to Mainz over Celtic. On the other hand, it is not clear whether the Hoops are open to shelling out a £2.5 million fee for him.
