Celtic got themselves back to winning ways, with a 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock. Jota put the Hoops ahead just before half-time and then, it looked like Kyogo had made it two in the second half but it seems that that strike has gone down as an own goal. And while Ange Postecoglou’s side were unable to add to their tally further on the day, they’ll be delighted with the three points and a welcome clean sheet as well.
The result also means that Celtic are now 12 points ahead of the Rangers in the Premiership table, and that is a big challenge for Michael Beale’s side.
Earlier this season, we have seen the Rangers struggle when put under the pressure of having to play after Celtic had already won in that matchweek. Let’s see if they can deliver this time around.
There is no doubt that their form has improved since the arrival of Michael Beale as manager, but in many ways, this will be the real test of whether they have turned over a new leaf or not.
Celtic hand big problem to Beale’s Rangers with win over Kilmarnock
The win over Kilmarnock was important for Celtic in more ways than one. Not only does it put them 12 points ahead but it is also one less game left to be played, as the Hoops march towards the title one match at a time.
On the other hand, it must be a confidence booster for Postecoglou’s side heading into next week’s Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park, where they will take on Kilmarnock once again.
Now, the ball is in the Rangers’ court and let’s see if they can rise to the occasion, or end up dropping points under the pressure, when they travel to Tannadice Park to take on a somewhat in-form Dundee United side next.
