Celtic have already signed three players in the January transfer window in the form of Alistair Johnston, who impressed immensely on his debut against the Rangers, Yuki Kobayashi and Tomoki Iwata. There is one particular position though where the Hoops still need to strengthen, and it is at striker.
Giorgos Giakoumakis’ future at Celtic Park seems uncertain and with him not starting any of the recent games, the writing seems to be somewhat on the wall.
Rumours have suggested that the Greek striker has failed to agree new terms with the club, is not happy with his lack of starts and does not particularly like the Scottish weather either. One thing is for sure, Celtic will need to bring in a new forward if he was to leave.
One player that they have been linked with recently is Said Hamulic of Stal Mielec. Still just 22 years of age, he has been one of the best players in the Polish league this season. On the other hand, his record at previous clubs and at youth levels are pretty impressive as well, and the youngster has all the physical attributes to replace someone like Giakoumakis. On top of everything else though, it looks like he could be available for a reasonable transfer fee.
Celtic must pull off €2.5 million transfer masterstroke
As reported by Weszlo, the president of Stal Mielec, Jacek Klimek, said in an interview with hej.mielec.pl:
"“Said is in demand in Europe. Every day we negotiate his transfer, even today I refused a club from France. We would like to keep him, but it will not be easy, especially since looking at Said you can see that from time to time his thoughts are already in other places. We are expecting EUR 2.5 million for it and we have now received one such offer, which may soon see the light of day.”"
It is safe to say that signing someone like Hamulic could be a transfer masterstroke on the part of Celtic.
One has to remember that Stal Mielec are not one of the traditional big clubs in Poland and he has still scored 9 goals for them already this season. At Celtic, he would get a lot more chances to put the ball into the back of the net.
Of course, all of this depends on what happens with Giakoumakis while the Hoops have also been linked with the likes of Cho Gue-sung and Casper Tengstedt.
