Celtic have continued to strengthen their squad in January and have been much busier than most fans would have been expecting. The club have already brought in three players in the form of Alistair Johnston, Yuki Kobayashi and Tomoki Iwata. The Canadian even impressed on his debut against the Rangers at Ibrox, and the Hoops seem to have pulled of another transfer masterstroke by signing him, especially with the future of Josip Juranovic unclear.
Celtic are not expected to stop here though and could end up making further additions to the squad before the January transfer window slams shut, and one position where they could do with reinforcements is striker.
Giorgos Giakoumakis has not started in recent games as it is believed that he is looking to leave Celtic in January, after failing to agree to new terms with the club.
One player that Celtic have been linked with heavily over the past month or so is Cho Gue-sung of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and it is pretty clear that these are not just mere rumours.
World Cup sensation admits to transfer talks with Celtic
As reported by Glasgow Times, in an interview with Korean outlet KVN, Cho said:
"“Celtic have six Japanese players in its squad.“As you can see there, it is a team that has invested heavily in the Asian market over the past few years and there have been talks.”"
It is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in Cho. He was very impressive at the World Cup while representing South Korea. The striker scored a couple of goals for his national team and was very good with his overall play as well as they were successful in making the last 16 of the competition before being knocked out by Brazil.
The South Korean international is a similar profile of player to Giakoumakis as well and if the Greek star was to leave the club in January, then he could be a good replacement for him. Thus, a move would make perfect sense for Celtic. Now, it remains to be seen if they can agree a deal with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors or not.
