It is no secret that Celtic are searching for a striker right now. On one hand, their finishing has come under some criticism this season, although Kyogo Furuhashi seems to have rediscovered his form after the World Cup break. On the other hand, Giorgos Giakoumakis could be on his way out of Parkhead this January as it is believed that he has failed to agree a contract extension with the Hoops.
If Giakoumakis was to leave, then that would leave Celtic with only one recognised striker in the squad in Kyogo with Daizen Maeda capable of playing there if the situation calls for it although he has not looked at his best when up front on his own.
Thus, it is important that Celtic add to their forward department in January and one player who has been linked with a move to Parkhead for a while is Cho Gue-sung of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, who was impressive while representing South Korea at the World Cup. There seems to be some mixed news for Celtic in the race to sign him.
As reported by Naver Sports, Cho’s agent said on January 2 that he was “currently in talks with the Scottish Celtic club”. The striker is believed to have a transfer value of £2.2 million and it appears that the fee offered by the Hoops has not met expectations.
Cho’s agent hands boost to Celtic but there is some bad news as well
It remains to be seen if Celtic are able to agree a transfer fee with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors for Cho or not.
With the South Korean striker being their star player, it is not hard to see why they might be reluctant to let him leave unless they get a big transfer fee.
On the other hand, it is no secret that Cho would want to try on a new challenge and move to Europe in January.
