Celtic have had a great time when it comes to strengthening their squad heading into the January transfer window. The Hoops have already brought in three new players in the form of Yuki Kobayashi, Alistair Johnston and Tomoki Iwata, and more arrivals are expected this month. On the other hand though, there are some key players who are being linked with moves away.

One such player is Giorgos Giakoumakis. The Greek striker has been one of Celtic’s most important players in recent times but has not started games recently, as rumours have broken out that he is looking to make an exit after failing to agree a contract extension with the club.

Of course, the fact that he is not getting starts have only led to those rumours intensifying and there is a feeling of inevitability about Giakoumakis’ exit.

As reported by Inside Futbol, Giakoumakis’ agent is looking at a number of options which would see him exit Parkhead and the Greek international would be keen to test himself in the Premier League. The striker would also be open to moving to Germany or Italy though.

Celtic player wants to leave for the Premier League

It is not an uncommon sight to see some of Celtic’s best players leave for the glitz and glamour of the Premier League. It remains to be seen if Giakoumakis gets his move down south or not.

It must be said that the Greek striker has been on top form in recent years. In the 2020/21 season, he topped the Eredivisie scoring charts while playing for VVV-Venlo. And in the previous campaign, he played a key role in Celtic’s Premiership triumph as well.

At 28 years of age, he is also very much in the middle of his prime. Thus, it would not come as a major surprise if a Premier League club did make a move for Giakoumakis. On the other hand, Celtic would need to find a replacement for him and have been linked with exciting names like Casper Tengstedt and Cho Gue-sung recently.
