Celtic are in search of a striker at this point of time. That is no secret. On one hand, their finishing in front of goal this season has drawn a lot of criticism. And on the other hand, it is believed that Giorgos Giakoumakis could be on his way out of Parkhead in the near future, which would leave Kyogo Furuhashi as the only other option in the squad.

One man who seems to be on their radar at this point of time is Oh Hyeon-gyu, who currently plays for Suwon Samsung Bluewings in the K League 1 and is coming off of a very encouraging season.

The 21-year-old seems to have all the tools required to be a good fit in Ange Postecoglou’s system. And recent rumours even suggested that Celtic had launched a £1.7 million transfer bid in an attempt to sign Oh.

But there seems to be a big stumbling block in the path to any deal for Oh. As reported by the Daily Record, Suwon Samsung Bluewings released a club statement to SpoTV which read:

"“The club’s position is clear. Oh has four years left on his contract and is an indispensable player.”"

Celtic handed major blow in their attempt to sign the highly rated South Korean striker from Suwon Samsung Bluewings

It is safe to say that someone like Oh could have been an exciting addition to the current Celtic squad.

He seems to be one of the biggest talents in South Korean football at this point of time and has all the attributes required to be a future star of the game. At the same time though, it does not look like his club are willing to let him go.

As a result, it might be best for Celtic to move their eyes elsewhere. Interestingly, Oh is not the only South Korean striker they have been linked with in recent times and are believed to be chasing the signature of Cho Gue-sung too, along with Casper Tengstedt of Rosenborg BK.
