It is an interesting period of time for Celtic. The club have continued to bring players in. Their latest three additions are Yuki Kobayashi, Alistair Johnston and Tomoki Iwata. And several other players are being linked with a move to Parkhead as well. At the same time though, rumours suggest that the likes of Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis could be on their way out of Glasgow this month.
Let’s see how things play out in that regard. One player whose future is pretty much up in the air as well is Moritz Jenz, who is currently on a season-long loan from Lorient with an option to buy included in the deal.
Jenz made a tremendous start to his run at Celtic and while things have settled down since then, he has certainly made his contribution in the first half of the season. But with the arrival of Kobayashi, and Iwata can play at centre-back as well, minutes could be harder to come by for the German defender in the second half of the campaign.
It is clear that Jenz is hoping for a long-term stay at Parkhead though. As reported by rbb24, he said about his future:
"“Hard to say because it’s still relatively early. My agent and the club representatives will discuss this. I’m relatively happy at Celtic and it’s really fun here. Every day is a dream. I hope it can continue in the long term. Let’s see what happens. I’m just going full throttle for Celtic.”"
Celtic star admits that he wants long-term stay at Parkhead
It is safe to say that Jenz’s long-term future at Celtic will depend on how things turn out in the second half of this ongoing season.
If he continues to play his part in the starting XI, then one would expect that the club would turn his loan deal into a permanent one next summer like they did with Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers this time around.
But if he ends up slipping down the pecking order following the arrivals of Kobayashi and Iwata, then the German centre-back could find himself back at Lorient next season.
