Considering the fact that Celtic are the defending Premiership champions, won the first Glasgow Derby of the season by a 4-0 scoreline against the Rangers and have a 9-point lead at the top of the table, one would think that they are the best team in the league right now and by some distance, no matter what ends up happening on Monday.
The Ibrox side have found some form after the World Cup break though and seem to be enjoying a new manager bounce, following the arrival of Michael Beale from QPR, after Giovanni van Bronckhorst was shown the exit door.
It remains to be seen how long their new found form lasts, but it has certainly instilled some confidence amongst their players, and it looks like some even believe that on their day that can be the best team in the league.
As reported by Football Scotland, Malik Tillman said ahead of the upcoming Glasgow Derby:
"“If we reach our level we are one of the best teams in the league, or even the best team.“Obviously, we’ll try to turn around things in the Old Firm game and bring back three points.”"
Rangers star makes controversial claim ahead of Glasgow Derby vs Celtic at Ibrox
One thing Celtic cannot do is make the mistake of taking the Rangers lightly. Any team can win on their given day, especially at home. Thus, Ange Postecoglou’s side must take their A-game to Ibrox.
At the same time though, the Hoops must be confident of their own chances. They already showed last season that they are good enough to win away at Ibrox. And one can argue that that team has only grown stronger since then.
Of course, there are a few worries going into the game, like the right-back situation and the potential unavailability of Sead Haksabanovic. But overall, Celtic look to be in good shape.
A win away at Ibrox would be a terrific result and could virtually end the title race in January itself. But even a draw would suit the Hoops very well.
