Celtic recently saw Ben Doak make his full debut for Liverpool, and it is hard not to feel a sense of regret that the youngster did not remain at Parkhead. The club have not had a great time when it comes to bringing through youth stars into the first-team in the past few years but it is clear that the 17-year-old had a great chance of making it with the Hoops.

Doak had already made a couple of appearances for Celtic before leaving for Liverpool. Let’s see how things go for him at Anfield but he has clearly made a pretty decent start to already be involved with Jurgen Klopp’s senior team.

One thing that is clear though is that Celtic need to improve when it comes to promoting their own youngsters into the first-team picture. The only player in the current starting XI, who came through the youth ranks of the club, is Callum McGregor. Anthony Ralston and Stephen Welsh are in the mix as well but they cannot be called starters.

There are high hopes from Rocco Vata, who made his debut against Hibernian, and Bosun Lawal. On the other hand, it looks like Celtic are adding to their youth ranks as well.

Celtic close to signing Scottish youngster ahead of Tottenham Hotspur

As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic are closing in on the signing of Scotland youth international Hayden Borland. The youngster has previously been on trial at Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were also believed to be watching his situation keenly.

Celtic made an approach for the Partick Thistle youngster recently and now seem to have defeated tough competition in the race to sign him.

Considering the quality of clubs interested in Borland, it is safe to say that he is a very highly rated talent and let’s hope that the Hoops get a deal over the line.
