Celtic have made it a habit to spring a transfer surprise here and there, following the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as the manager. While most of the recent rumours have linked the club with Cho Gue-sung of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, it appears that another South Korean striker has been on the Hoops’ radar for a while as well.
It is no secret that Celtic could do with another striker at the moment. They have only two options right now in the form of Kyogo and Giorgos Giakoumakis, and their finishing this season has come under some criticism.
On top of that, it is believed that Giakoumakis could be on his way out of the club when the January transfer window opens, as he failed to agree new terms with the Hoops. Some rumours have suggested that the Greek striker does not like the Scottish weather either.
As reported by JoongAng Ilbo (via The Scottish Sun), Celtic offered around £1.7 million for Oh Hyeon-gyu’s services.
Celtic make offer for another South Korean striker despite being linked with Cho
Celtic have been linked with a move for Cho for several weeks, after the South Korean striker was immensely impressive at the World Cup. Not only did he score a couple of goals, but was solid with his overall play as well.
But now, it looks like that Celtic are interested in another South Korean striker as well in the form of Oh.
Suwon Samsung Bluewings are believed to be very keen to hold on to Oh though and do not want to let him leave, despite the offer from Celtic.
As a result, it is very possible that the Hoops could turn their eyes elsewhere in their search for a striker. Other than Cho and Oh, the club have been linked with Casper Tengstedt recently as well and he could also be an excellent addition to the current squad.
