It’s looking like another amazing transfer window for Celtic before it has even officially opened. The third new signing, Tomoki Iwata, has already been announced by the Hoops. And amazingly, more additions are expected next month. Could a deal for Cho Gue-sung be next as his club look open to letting him go?
It’s exciting times as Celtic fans prepare for the Glasgow Derby. Everyone is looking forward to seeing the three new players in action and although that’s unlikely to happen at Ibrox, they are expected to be fielded soon in the games ahead.
Quickly though the attention turns to a further potential signing, with Celtic being heavily linked with South Korean striker, Cho, recently. Rumours around that possible deal had gone a bit quiet recently, but with good reason.
As reported by the Daily Record, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors have been waiting for their technical director, Park Ji-sung, to return from a break. The former Manchester United star is now back though and he said:
"“The most important thing for Cho is to succeed in Europe and be focused on achieving good results rather than just going to Europe itself.“The player will also now think about which team to sign for and when to leave. I will also be involved in this and help him make his decision. The timing and team are the most important issues for him.”"
Celtic handed big transfer boost as Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors look ready to let Cho leave
Of course Cho’s performances at the World Cup and his two goals against Ghana there will have raised his profile and attracted the interest of many clubs. Thus, Celtic will face stiff competition to sign the player.
We know already that Cho is believed to be very keen to move to a European club and Park’s comments suggest that a transfer away from Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors lies in his future.
With the Hoops already providing a great place to succeed for several players from Asia and a high profile coach in Ange Postecoglou, Parkhead could be a very natural destination and the right club for Cho at this stage.
The fact that Giorgos Giakoumakis is expected to leave in January could provide Cho with an immediate spot to fill in the first-team as well.
