Josip Juranovic’s future at Celtic is pretty much up in the air at this point of time. Following a brilliant World Cup campaign, some of the biggest clubs in the world are believed to be interested in him with one of them being Chelsea. And with the Hoops already bringing in Alistair Johnston, the Croatian’s exit in January has a feeling of inevitability around it.
Chelsea are in deep need of a right-back at this point of time, with Reece James struggling with injury problems over the past couple of seasons. And it is not hard to see why they might be interested in signing an experienced and reliable player like Juranovic to provide competition in that area.
At the moment, it looks like Chelsea’s interest in the player is internal and they have not made a move to sign him yet.
Nizaar Kinsella tweeted out regarding the matter recently:
Juranovic to Chelsea update amid rumours linking the Croatian with a move away from Celtic
Chelsea do seem like the most likely destination for Juranovic at this point, while clubs like Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and others have been linked with him as well.
For Celtic, if Juranovic was to inevitably leave next month, then the best case scenario might be agreeing a deal with Chelsea, who have been splashing out since the change in ownership and there would be a real possibility that the Hoops could get a Scottish record transfer fee out of the operation.
Of course, nothing has transpired yet and let’s see how things develop from here. Obviously, a key starter like Juranovic leaving in the middle of the season would not be ideal for Celtic by any means and the best thing for them would be if he stays on at the club. But if that proves to be impossible then their next target has to be on getting as big of a transfer fee out of the exit as they can.
