Celtic’s midfield could undergo a bit of a transformation in the upcoming weeks. There are several midfielders at the club, who have failed to make much of an impact at Parkhead. Names like Yosuke Ideguchi, James McCarthy and Oliver Abildgaard come to mind immediately, and the Hoops might be considering parting ways with them.
On the other hand, they are believed to be closing in on a move for Yokohama F. Marinos’ Tomoki Iwata, who can play as a defensive midfielder, as well as a centre-back with equal ease. But it is in the middle of the park where the Hoops need more options.
A move for Iwata is expected to go through soon and he does not appear to be the only midfielder that Celtic have their eyes on at the moment.
As tweeted out by Barry Anderson, Celtic have made an offer to sign South Korean midfielder Kwon Hyeok-kyu, according to reports in East Asia.
Celtic have reportedly submitted a transfer offer for the South Korean midfielder
Kwon currently plays for South Korean second division side, Busan IPark, whose academy he came through, but he spent the previous campaign playing in the top division with Gimcheon Sangmu.
He is considered as one of the most highly-rated youngsters in South Korea right now, and their national team did make the last 16 of the World Cup this time around, showing the kind of talent that they have at this point of time.
There will surely be some question marks about whether Kwon will be able to deal with the jump in quality that would come if he joined a club like Celtic. He does have all the physical attributes to be a success in the Scottish game though.
Of course, Kwon is not the only South Korean player that Celtic have been linked with recently, with the Hoops rumoured to be the favourites to sign Cho Gue-sung as well.
