Celtic are in need of a striker at this point of time. Kyogo Furuhashi seems to have rediscovered some of his form in front of goal recently. But the future of Giorgos Giakoumakis is pretty much up in the air as rumours have suggested that he could be looking for a way out of the club after failing to agree to terms on an extension.

If Giakoumakis did leave, that would leave Kyogo as the only recognised forward in the squad, with Daizen Maeda having the ability to play up front if the situation calls for it.

On the other hand, the club do not have anyone else with similar attributes to Giakoumakis either and would be left lacking a physical presence up top, something that Kyogo cannot provide despite all of his other qualities.

One man who has been linked with a move to Celtic in recent times is South Korean striker Cho Gue-sung. And it looks like the Hoops are the favourites to sign him at the moment. A report from Yahoo Japan (as translated by Google Translate), goes on to read:

"The South Korean newspaper Kukje Shinbun said, “Korea’s World Cup star Cho Kyung-sung’s entry into Europe is imminent. Its market value has increased from 1.4 million euros (about 200 million yen) just before the World Cup to 2.5 million today. It jumped to the euro (approximately 350 million yen).” On top of that, “Currently, the possibility of going to Scotland’s prestigious Celtic is increasing, but Fenerbahce (Turkey) and Rennes (France) are also aiming to acquire,” it reported."

Celtic seem to be favourites to sign the striker

It does look like Celtic are the heavy favourites when it comes to signing Cho from his current club, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, in January.

Cho had a brilliant World Cup, as he scored a couple of goals and impressed with his overall performances as well, against top quality opposition.

He has been in top form at club level as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 21 goals and provided 5 assists in 35 appearances in the recent campaign.

Thus, all things considered, he has the potential to be a great signing for Celtic, especially if they are able to sign him for a transfer fee of €2.5 million or somewhere near that figure.
